The Supreme Court by a Judgement delivered on Friday, 10th January, 2020, upturned the decisions of the High Court and the Court of Appeal, by discharging and acquitting Mr. Bulus Golit, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of BUA cement, a subsidiary of the BUA group on all the Charges against him.
Mr Bulus Golit, represented by Sylva Ogwemoh SAN, the senior partner of KMO Legal, is the Chief Security Officer of BUA Cement. Mr Bulus was charged at the Kogi State High Court, Lokoja on a twenty one (21) Count charge filed on May, 2016 under the Penal Code law Cap 89 Laws of Northern Nigeria 1963 for inter alia, conspiracy, abduction, assault, intimidation and robbery, of members of staff and expatriates working for Dangote group of companies.
The charge preferred against Mr Bulus and other persons was as a result of a dispute which ensued between the Dangote Cement and BUA Cement, (subsidiaries of the Dangote group of companies and BUA group respectively); over some mining leases (ML.18912 and ML.18913) located in Okpella town in Edo State.
Following the discharge of twenty (20) count charges against Mr Bulus Golit on a No- case submission at the trial Court, Mr Bulus was convicted by the trial court on the remaining charge of conspiracy.
On appeal, the Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the trial court. The Apex Court, however, in its judgment delivered on Friday, 10th January, 2020, upturned the decisions of the lower Courts (the Court of Appeal and the High Court), thereby discharging and acquitting Mr Bulus Golit of the said charge.
